Windows XP is the operating system release that unifies the M'zoft range, with
all the desktop versions now built on the NT/2000 code base rather than the
shakier foundation of Windows 95, 98, and Me. That makes XP a great upgrade for
users of the now-obsolete 9x and Me line, but for those already on Windows 2000
Professional it is a closer call. Despite the similar name, there is no special
synergy between Windows XP and Office XP, which works fine on Windows 2000.

XP certainly looks different, with rounded window corners, larger and more
detailed icons, and a clean-look desktop that on first installation shows only
the taskbar and Recycle Bin. XP is also more customizable than earlier versions
of Windows, and includes visual themes that let you change the whole appearance
of Windows in an instant. That is the window-dressing, but underneath are some
significant improvements. One of the most interesting is Remote Desktop. A
standard XP feature, this uses technology from M'zoft Terminal Server to enable
users to access their computer over any connection; for example, by dialing into
the office from home.

This is not just file access--this technology lets you run applications remotely
as if you were sitting at your desk at work. This is ****** technology, stable
and carefully thought out. So, for example, you can print from a remote word
processor to a local printer. A variation on the theme is Remote Assistance,
where the user can allow a remote helper to view their desktop, or optionally
gain control of the keyboard and mouse, in order to troubleshoot a problem. The
feature can also be disabled to ease security concerns.



Laptop users benefit from enhanced power management, with options to extend
battery life by reducing CPU speed and display brightness. IrDA support has been
fixed so that, unlike Windows 2000, Windows XP can easily use modems in mobile
telephones via infrared. A new screen font, ClearType, improves legibility for
laptop or other flat screens, and there is built-in support for wireless
networking using the popular 802.11 standard. A great feature of XP, also found
in Windows 2000, is the ability to synchronize network files with offline
copies. Previously, these files could not be stored securely, but now they can
be encrypted.

For Web browsing, XP comes with Internet Explorer 6.0. The enhancements in IE
6.0 are mainly of interest to Web developers, and in any case M'zoft makes IE
freely available to all Windows users. Although Java is not installed by
default, it is not difficult to download a Java Virtual Machine (JVM). Windows
Messenger, originally a chat client, has evolved into a collaboration tool that
allows for video conferencing and application sharing.

The most significant new feature for Internet users is the built-in firewall. A
firewall protects against one of the most disturbing security risks, in which
other users unknown to you might connect to your computer while it is online,
reading private files or causing other damage. XP's built-in firewall is a
simple affair, but it does prevent most types of unauthorized connection.

Windows XP has strong multimedia features. The new Media Player lets you copy
music from CD to hard disk, create your own playlist, and write your own music
CDs if you have a CD writer. Although there is loss of quality as a result of
compression, the process is easy and convenient. Media Player 8.0 can play back
DVD video, but only if a hardware or software DVD decoder is already installed.
You can also play MP3 audio files and MPEG videos, but sadly, not the popular
RealMedia formats. In the end, Media Player does nothing that you cannot also do
with free alternatives, but it is slick and nicely integrated.

The XP user interface is not a radical departure from earlier versions of
Windows, but there are a number of small changes that together add up to a
significant improvement. The Start menu now automatically features the most
frequently used programs at the top of the list, and you can add and remove
shortcuts by right-clicking the icon and selecting Pin or Unpin from the pop-up
menu. Windows online help is integrated into a Help and Support Center that
works like an internal Web site, with searchable help, tutorials, and walk-throughs.

Windows XP Professional includes all the features of Windows XP Home, and adds
support for dual processors, encryptable file systems, offline folders, the
Remote Desktop as described above, and extra administration features that come
into play when connected to a Windows server domain. XP is demanding on
hardware, and it would be a mistake to install it on less than M'zoft's
recommended minimum requirements. There is also activation to consider, a mildly
annoying anti-piracy measure that requires you to obtain a code from M'zoft for
full installation, and in the future if you reinstall or make major system
changes.

This DVD contains 11 versions of Windows XP with Service Pack 2 integrated. Each version is untouched, straight from Microsoft. The only modification is a patched uxtheme.dl_, so non-standard themes can be used. An untouched uxtheme.dl_ is located in the TOOLS directory if it is wanted. This release is ISO because of the special filesystem required. ISO's can be made of any of the versions of windows on the DVD. There are two 'special' versions, Windows XP Media Center 2005 and Tablet PC 2005 'Integrated' ISO's which can be created. These integrated ISO's have both CD's of Media Center or Tablet PC in one for easier installation. The DVD contains:

If you try this Operating System, you will never want to go back to Windows
XP ever again, not for playing games and not for running programs, not for
any reason! Why? Because Server 2003 wipes the floor with XP, it installs
faster, it boots faster, it runs applications faster, it manages programs
better, it gives better frame rates in games, it never slows down even
after days of being left on and it is 2 years younger than XP.

But wait, Server 2003 is a server, its not for gaming? WRONG! This is the
made up myth that gets bounded around when in fact the opposite is true,
Server 2003 runs games, programs and itself far better than XP - this is
a fact, it doesn't matter what the techies who assume they know it all tell
you, try Server 2003 for yourself, then you will see how it is far better
than XP. The only people who say Server 2003 is "not suited to gaming or
home use" are people who just go along with whatever Microsoft tell them.
How is it I run almost every single program and ALL games, bar none, that
I run on XP and not only that, but they run much faster too?

Don't fall for the mainstream B$ that "Server is for being a server only
and XP is for games" because it isn't true. Granted there are a few programs
here and there that won't work on Server 2003, for example "Partition Magic"
but you can just use the alternative "Paragon Partition Manager Enterprise".
Also "Acronis True Image Home" will not install on Server 2003, but you can
just use the server version of that software. The same goes for "PerfectDisk
Defragmenter".

Yes, its true that there are a few programs and games that won't run on Server
2003 but personally, I have never once been stuck, and have always found an
alternative program, as for games, I have not yet found one single game that
does not work on Server 2003. Someone once reported that "RollerCoaster Tycoon 2"
would not install, but I have never tried this game myself. I have tried Grand
Theft Auto III, GTA Vice City, GTA San Andreas, Doom III, Quake IV, Battlefield
1942, Battlefield 2, Battlefield 2142, Medal Of Honor Pacific Assault, Call Of
Duty (and expansion pack United Offensive), Need For Speed Underground, Need For
Speed Black Edition, Need For Speed Carbon... all these games work on Server 2003
(they also run a lot better than on XP too) and therefore it is safe to assume
that 99.99% of games work on it. If you have an MSI based installer that tells
you it won't install on Server 2003, you can use the included fix that is in the
Desktop folder "eXPerience". This allows programs like Kaspersky Antivirus and
Kaspersky Internet Suite, and games like Doom III to be installed, once installed
these run fine - actually more than fine... they run like lightening compared to
XP.

Remember, this special edition has all the tweaks you need for running this
Operating System not as a server, but as a home user would - it can still be
run as a server of course, but check the removed items below if you are in any
doubt, for example the "UDDI" service is removed and also the "Windows Media
Services" service too. You would have quite a hard time if you just installed
Server 2003 without the tweaks this special edition has got, for example, your
Hardware Acceleration is turned up, you won't get that "Shutdown Event Tracker",
you have Direct3D and DirectDraw enabled in the DirectX diagnostic tool, you
have programs set so background applications do not have priority, you have
"Data Execution Prevention" disabled, you have Themes and Audio services
enabled... the list goes on and on, the full list of tweaks (more than 200
tweaks) is listed in the included text file "List Of Tweaks".


Every single little thing has been taken care of to ensure that this Operating
System runs as close to being like XP as possible, whilst not actually converting
it to a workstation. By the way, never use the tool "TweakNT 1.21" on this corporate
version of Server 2003, because although this tool does convert Server 2003 into a
workstation (meaning programs see it as a workstation and not a server which is handy
sometimes) the TweakNT tool will cripple this corporate version of this OS and you
will not be able to log on again due to a licence error! It is tempting to use
TweakNT, but DO NOT use it on this particular OS.

Basic Tips To Increase Windows Performance


Here it is.


-To Increase System Performance

Right click my computer.
Click properties.
Click advanced.
Click settings (under performance).
Click Adjust for best performance.
Scroll to the bottom and check the last one “use visual styles on windows and buttons”.

-How to Disable XP's crap built in CD Burner

Click the start button.
Select Run.
Type services.msc and click ok.
Go to IMAPI CD-Burning Com Services open it and click on start up type, change to "Disabled".

-Fine Tune Your Systems Memory

These Settings will fine tune your systems memory
You need at least 256MB of ram to do this:
Go to Start > Run then type in REGEDIT -and then to the following key:
HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SYSTEM \CurrentControlSet\Control\Session Manager\Memory Management

1.DisablePagingExecutive -Double click it and in the decimal put a 1 - this allows XP to keep data in memory now instead of paging sections of ram to harddrive yeilds faster performance.

2.LargeSystemCache- Double click it and change the decimal to 1 -this allows XP Kernal to Run in memory and improves system performance a lot.

3.IOPageLockLimit - Create a new dword and name it double click it and set the value in hex - 4000 if you have 128MB of ram or set it to 10000 if you have 256MB set it to 40000 if you have more than 512MB of ram -this tweak will speed up your disckcache.

Reboot

-Unable to delete from Avi files from HD

XP holds files in it's memory even after you have closed the application using them making it impossible to delete them from your harddrive. To fix this:
Start -> Run -> Regedit
Find the HKEY_CLASSES_ROOT\SystemFileAssociations\.avi\shel lex\PropertyHandl er\ directory and delete the "DEFAULT" key.

-Tweak The Swap File

For Users with 256 MB RAM or more this tweak will boost their Windows- and Game-Performance.
What it does: It tells Windows not to use any Swap File until there is really no more free RAM left.
Open the System Configuration Utility by typing msconfig.exe in the RUNConservativeSwapfileUsage =1" under the 386enh section.
Restart your Windows and enjoy better Game performance

-Speed Up The File System

NTFS is a great file system, but its feature-set comes at a slight cost in performance. You can negate this a little with the following tips:

* By default NTFS will automatically update timestamps whenever a directory is traversed. This isn't a necessary feature, and it slows down large volumes. Disable it by going to Run and type regedit:

HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SYSTEM \CurrentControlSet\Control\FileSystem and set 'DisableNTFSLastAccessUpd ate' to 1.

* NTFS uses disparate master file control tables to store filesystem information about your drives. Over time these core MFT files grow and become fragmented, slowing down all accesses to the drive. By setting aside a little space, MFT's can grow without becoming fragmented.

In the same key where you disabled the last access feature creat a new DWORD value called 'NtfsMftZoneReservation' and set it to 2.

-Disable DLL Caching

Windows Explorer caches DLLs (Dynamic-Link Libraries) in memory for a period of time after the application using them has been closed. This can be an inefficient use of memory.

1. Find the key [HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SOFTWA RE\M'zoft\Windows\Curr entVersion\Explorer].

2. Create a new DWORD sub-key named 'AlwaysUnloadDLL' and set the default value to equal '1' to disable Windows caching the DLL in memory.

3. Restart Windows for the change to take effect.

-Tweak The Prefetch

1. Run "Regedit"
2. Goto [HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SYSTEM \CurrentControlSet\Contro l\Session Manager\Memory Management\PrefetchParame ters\EnablePrefetcher]

3. Set the value to either 0-Disable, 1-App launch prefetch, 2-Boot Prefetch, 3-Both ("3" is recommended).

4. Reboot.

It will decrease the boot time but double and increase the performance of your XP.


-Performance Increase Through My Computer

Easy enough tweak to usually find out about it on your own, but still, some of us still don't find it right away. So here it is:

Start > right-click on My Computer and select Properties.
Click on the "Advanced" tab.
See the "Performance" section? Click "Settings".
Disable the following:

Fade or slide menus into view
Fade or slide ToolTips into view
Fade out menu items after clicking
Show Shadows under menus
Slide open combo boxes
Slide taskbar buttons
Use a background image for each folder type
Use common tasks in folders
There, now Windows will still look nice and perform faster.

Do Not Highlight Newly Installed Programs

Tired of that annoying little window that pops up to tell you that new software is installed? If it gets in the way when you?re logging off, turn it off completely. To do this:

Click Start, right-click at the top of the Start menu where your name is displayed, and then click Properties.
In the Taskbar and Start Menu Properties dialog box, on the Start Menu tab, click Customize.
Click the Advanced tab, and then clear the Highlight newly installed programs check box.
Click OK, and then click OK again.

The Start menu gets more real estate in XP than in previous versions, and it's more customizable. To make the Start menu display only the applications you want, rather than the default determined by M'zoft:

Right-click in an empty section of the Start menu's left column.
Select Properties > Start Menu > Customize. Here you'll find a list of your most frequently used programs. (XP keeps track of what you use and what you don't, then updates this list dynamically).

McAfee VirusScan Plus is available in retail stores and for download from the McAfee.com site. We found the setup from a download to be unnecessarily hard. For example, McAfee requires that you install its Download Center, then after the Download Center analyzes your system, you must indicate what product you want to download. But wait, there's more: the Download Center must now connect to the Internet and download the file, which for VirusScan Plus is in individual pieces--VirusScan, Personal Firewall, SiteAdvisor, and Security Center. On a wireless laptop, our initial download-and-installation process took about an hour. On a LAN connection, a second installation required only 10 minutes. What's interesting is that unlike other antivirus-and-firewall combos we've seen, McAfee VirusScan Plus doesn't require a reboot.

Once installed, McAfee VirusScan Plus 2007 occupies 75MB of hard drive space--that's less than half the space required for Norton Antivirus 2007. Yet despite its small profile, McAfee actually runs more agents and services, consuming more system resources overall than Norton. Unlike Norton, which is strictly Windows XP, McAfee installs on both Windows 2000 and Windows XP machines.

If you should ever want to remove VirusScan Plus 2007, expect some hard work. First, you'll have to use the Windows Control Panel Add/Remove Programs panel to access an uninstall-like application that offers you the option to remove individual applications, should decide you, for example, that you want to keep the Site Advisor antisphishing tool. Twice, however, our install froze while uninstalling the VirusScan module; we had to terminate the uninstall process with the Windows Task Manager and restart the uninstall process to finish uninstalling the rest. Once the uninstall process did complete, and we rebooted our test system, McAfee left behind a mess. We had to delete individually several files within folders, along with several McAfee-specific registry keys--which is more than the average user should be required to do. By comparison, Norton Antivirus 2007 did a much better job cleaning up after itself, although it still was not ideal.

Interface
The initial Protection Center interface offers a left-hand navigation for all tools, with a right-hand window pane for system status. McAfee's left-hand navigation consists of two tables of contents, one that lists basic features and a second listing with more-advanced tools. We like that McAfee has blended its various tools so that the overall product feels like a whole rather than like several stand-alone applications repackaged. But unlike Symantec, which not only redesigned its look but also rewrote much of its underlying code, McAfee didn't rewrite much code; despite its look, McAfee VirusScan Plus feels heavy and clunky.

McAfee's redesigned Security Center remains a shameless way to sell product. For example, let's say something called Content Blocking is not installed and needs further attention. Rather than explain why a lack of content blocking could be bad, it links to the McAfee online store so that you can purchase a copy of McAfee Internet Security 2007. To be fair, Symantec sells stuff too, but at least with Norton Antivirus 2007 the Buy Now icon is tucked away in the upper-right corner of an otherwise information-filled screen.

Features
McAfee bills VirusScan Plus 2007 as its three-in-one security solution--antivirus, firewall, and antispyware--and we found that it does even more. Included within are system diagnostic tools to shred deleted files and defragment your hard drive; various network monitoring tools; and McAfee's own antisphishing tool, SiteAdvisor.

McAfee VirusScan Plus 2007 builds on its antivirus technology by incorporating features from the now-discontinued McAfee Antispyware application, such as proactive protection from "Potentially Unwanted Programs" (a.k.a. spyware). Antivirus and spyware scans are performed simultaneously instead of serially. New in VirusScan Plus is SystemGuard, which monitors real-time changes to your PC, such as spyware installation, ActiveX installations, and new Start Up menu items. SystemGuard blocks these with an alert until you say otherwise. Also new is X-Ray for Windows, which is Mcafee's tool to detect and remove rootkits.

By also adding features from the now-discontinued McAfee Personal Firewall, McAfee VirusScan Plus can report network traffic information, as well as hook into McAfee's Hacker Watch global network to report port traffic worldwide (spikes are sometimes precursors to major attacks). This may be more than the average user wants, so these tools are hidden within the Advanced table of contents.

We like the fact that McAfee VirusScan Plus 2007 also includes system performance utilities, such as McAfee's own file shredder and disk cache cleaner. What's missing from VirusScan Plus, however, is a tighter integration of all the tools around its central antivirus theme. For example, Norton has rebranded its firewall technology within Norton AntiVirus 2007 as Internet Worm Protection. McAfee has simply added a firewall to their antivirus application.

Change or delete the password of Admin User. Just Run the file. Its Too Easy and 100% Working. Now Change or Delete PassWord of Any W*ndows PC.

McAfee VirusScan Plus is available in retail stores and for download from the McAfee.com site. We found the setup from a download to be unnecessarily hard. For example, McAfee requires that you install its Download Center, then after the Download Center analyzes your system, you must indicate what product you want to download. But wait, there's more: the Download Center must now connect to the Internet and download the file, which for VirusScan Plus is in individual pieces--VirusScan, Personal Firewall, SiteAdvisor, and Security Center. On a wireless laptop, our initial download-and-installation process took about an hour. On a LAN connection, a second installation required only 10 minutes. What's interesting is that unlike other antivirus-and-firewall combos we've seen, McAfee VirusScan Plus doesn't require a reboot.

Once installed, McAfee VirusScan Plus 2007 occupies 75MB of hard drive space--that's less than half the space required for Norton Antivirus 2007. Yet despite its small profile, McAfee actually runs more agents and services, consuming more system resources overall than Norton. Unlike Norton, which is strictly Windows XP, McAfee installs on both Windows 2000 and Windows XP machines.

If you should ever want to remove VirusScan Plus 2007, expect some hard work. First, you'll have to use the Windows Control Panel Add/Remove Programs panel to access an uninstall-like application that offers you the option to remove individual applications, should decide you, for example, that you want to keep the Site Advisor antisphishing tool. Twice, however, our install froze while uninstalling the VirusScan module; we had to terminate the uninstall process with the Windows Task Manager and restart the uninstall process to finish uninstalling the rest. Once the uninstall process did complete, and we rebooted our test system, McAfee left behind a mess. We had to delete individually several files within folders, along with several McAfee-specific registry keys--which is more than the average user should be required to do. By comparison, Norton Antivirus 2007 did a much better job cleaning up after itself, although it still was not ideal.

Interface
The initial Protection Center interface offers a left-hand navigation for all tools, with a right-hand window pane for system status. McAfee's left-hand navigation consists of two tables of contents, one that lists basic features and a second listing with more-advanced tools. We like that McAfee has blended its various tools so that the overall product feels like a whole rather than like several stand-alone applications repackaged. But unlike Symantec, which not only redesigned its look but also rewrote much of its underlying code, McAfee didn't rewrite much code; despite its look, McAfee VirusScan Plus feels heavy and clunky.

McAfee's redesigned Security Center remains a shameless way to sell product. For example, let's say something called Content Blocking is not installed and needs further attention. Rather than explain why a lack of content blocking could be bad, it links to the McAfee online store so that you can purchase a copy of McAfee Internet Security 2007. To be fair, Symantec sells stuff too, but at least with Norton Antivirus 2007 the Buy Now icon is tucked away in the upper-right corner of an otherwise information-filled screen.

Features
McAfee bills VirusScan Plus 2007 as its three-in-one security solution--antivirus, firewall, and antispyware--and we found that it does even more. Included within are system diagnostic tools to shred deleted files and defragment your hard drive; various network monitoring tools; and McAfee's own antisphishing tool, SiteAdvisor.

McAfee VirusScan Plus 2007 builds on its antivirus technology by incorporating features from the now-discontinued McAfee Antispyware application, such as proactive protection from "Potentially Unwanted Programs" (a.k.a. spyware). Antivirus and spyware scans are performed simultaneously instead of serially. New in VirusScan Plus is SystemGuard, which monitors real-time changes to your PC, such as spyware installation, ActiveX installations, and new Start Up menu items. SystemGuard blocks these with an alert until you say otherwise. Also new is X-Ray for Windows, which is Mcafee's tool to detect and remove rootkits.

By also adding features from the now-discontinued McAfee Personal Firewall, McAfee VirusScan Plus can report network traffic information, as well as hook into McAfee's Hacker Watch global network to report port traffic worldwide (spikes are sometimes precursors to major attacks). This may be more than the average user wants, so these tools are hidden within the Advanced table of contents.

We like the fact that McAfee VirusScan Plus 2007 also includes system performance utilities, such as McAfee's own file shredder and disk cache cleaner. What's missing from VirusScan Plus, however, is a tighter integration of all the tools around its central antivirus theme. For example, Norton has rebranded its firewall technology within Norton AntiVirus 2007 as Internet Worm Protection. McAfee has simply added a firewall to their antivirus application.
